Kohima is grappling with a worsening water crisis due to poor water retention, steep terrain, and failing infrastructure. Despite abundant rainfall, access remains unequal,costly, affecting health and livelihoods. Groundwater potential is limited, and agriculture suffers. Recent policies and projects offer hope, but urgent action is needed to secure sustainable and equitable water for all.

The September 2024 landslides in Nagaland are a stark reminder of the region’s vulnerability to natural disasters, particularly during the monsoon season. While the loss of life and destruction is a tragic immediate outcome, it also highlights the need for long-term infrastructure planning and disaster preparedness to minimize the impact of such events in the future.

The new gold of our age is water. An easy competition organized by a water fellow from Northeast Waster Talks, Mr. Longsu collected numbers of essays. Out of many collected essays, "The value of water" is an essay by Cicity Sacheitenla of Little Flower School Pungro, which is presented here.

"The untold and precious treasure of the small village, Choklangan will slowly lose its important and its uniqueness". Choklangan borders Myanmar. It's in the Noklak district.  Mr. Pachim Chu from Noklak , Nagaland documented the oral story by expressing "It pains me as I jot lines about the living river".

KURANTANGDZU is one among many streams found under MIMI jurisdiction, located along the international border with Myanmar under Pungro Subdivision in Kiphire District of Nagaland. Longso Yimkhuing; from Mimi Village, narrates about the stream through this field story.

Tosangla Chang and her friend present this story based on a conversation with a friend’s grandfather. Chathe was a pristine river then – fresh and clean. It was the lifeline for all the villages settled along the river, as people were solely dependent on its waters for drinking and all other domestic uses.
