Bashistha and Bahini-Bharalu are two significant river basins of southern bank of the river Brahmaputra which constitute a part of Kamrup and Kamrup Metro districts of Assam and Ri Bhoi district of Meghalaya. The length of Bashistha River is 33.12km, while the length of Bahini-Bharalu River is 30.02 km.

মাজুলীৰ ফুলনি গাঁও পঞ্চায়তৰ পোলোঙা বিলখন পূৰ্বতে সৰু সুঁতিৰ পৰা সৃষ্টি হোৱা বুলি বিশ্বাস কৰা হয়। নামটো পাৰৰ পোলোঙা (শিমলু) গছৰ পৰা আহিছে। ই অতীতত মাছ, জলজ উদ্ভিদ, পৰিভ্ৰমী চৰাইৰে সমৃদ্ধ আছিল আৰু স্থানীয় লোকজীৱনৰ সম্বল আছিল। ১৯৩০-৩১ চনত ইয়াত মানুহে বসতি স্থাপন কৰে। 

শালমৰা মাজুলীৰ এখন ঐতিহাসিক গাঁও, যি মৃৎশিল্প আৰু নৌকা নিৰ্মাণৰ বাবে পৰিচিত। প্ৰাকৃতিক বিপৰ্যয় আৰু অবিহিত পৰিকাঠামো সত্ত্বেও গাঁওখনৰ মানুহে পৰম্পৰা বজাই ৰাখিছে। শিক্ষা, সংস্কৃতি আৰু শিল্পৰ জৰিয়তে শালমৰা আজিও মাজুলীৰ ঐতিহ্যৰ এক গুৰুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ ।
